Spurred on by Rubika Shah’s winner of Best Documentary at BFI London Film Festival – White Riot – telling the story of the protest movement Rock Against Racism. Here’s m90’s 20 track selection of White Riot inspired music.
RAR emerged in 1976 in reaction to a rise in racist attacks and increasing support for the far-right National Front. Organising the fanzine Temporary Hoarding, multicultural punk and reggae gigs and the important march and carnival in Victoria Park in ’78, where 100,000 people marched from Trafalgar Square to the East End of London for an open-air concert at Victoria Park in Hackney.
